Wow! What a super busy week I’ve had! I have been creating up a storm in my craft room, and it’s all thanks to the Global Design Project this week. If you saw my March Online Class last week, you would have heard me mention that I always have a starting point when I create. A colour combo, specific stamp set or sketch to get going from. This week, the Global Design Project challenge is a sketch – and I LOVE IT! It’s pretty classical me to be fair, but I thought I would share some more of my thought processes with you about how I use a card sketch to start creating. And card sketches are my favourite starting point to be honest. See below for more details on how to find out more.
The challenge this week was to follow the sketch below. It’s pretty similar to card designs a do regularly so I was pretty happy with it as my starting point. I made a few changes though as you’ll see:

And here is what I made! I am super into my Watermelon Wonder right now! I’m going to be so sad when it retires shortly!
HOW DID I USE THE CARD SKETCH?
Well, the first thing I did was switch the layout from a landscape to a portrait design. Many of my cards are portrait as you’ll see if you browse through the blog, and it suited the style I wanted to go for.
Next up was the split between the top and bottom of the card. I’ve been meaning to try this curved edge on a card ever since I used it for my HALLOWEEN TREAT BAGS last year. It’s made using the ‘wave’ die from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits. I’ll be sharing how in my Facebook Live Craft & Chat tomorrow at 10am GMT, so don’t miss it.
I’ve seen a few cards with black florals stamped on a white base too, so was keen to try this also. I then finished the card with some tone-on-tone stamping on the Watermelon Wonder layer, plus a Heat Embossed sentiment in the circular element. I cheated though and moved the twine to the top of the card!

The sketch from GDP inspired me so much this week that I’ve created another 5 cards using the same sketch! I’ll be LIVE on Facebook tomorrow sharing how I used the card sketch to create today’s card, along with a look at how the same sketch can be interpreted to create loads of different cards too!
